Drie schrijvers – Voordat we gaan, moeten we iets verzorgends doen, iets dat we respecteren

De Brits-Ethiopische kunstenaar Theo Eshetu selecteerde voor zijn kunstwerk Atlas Fragmented dertien talking heads. Daarvan zijn er vier échte literaire schrijvers. Tel je Bertrand Russell mee (want deze filosoof kreeg in 1950 de Nobelprijs voor Literatuur) dan zijn het er vijf.

Hier worden de quotes van drie Amerikaanse schrijvers,die voor het radioprogramma Atlas Radio  zijn geselecteerd, naar voren gehaald: Maya Angelou, Langston Hughes en Toni Morrison. Van een vierde Amerikaanse schrijver – James Baldwin – laat hij hier maar liefst zeven quotes horen.

Angelou, Hughes en Morrison
Maya Angelou (1928-2014) en Toni Morrison (1931-) zijn in Nederland geen onbekende namen. Langston Hughes (1902-1967) is dat wel. Theo Eshetu laat Langston Hughes én Maya Angelou (gedeeltes uit) een gedicht voorlezen. Verder laat hij flarden uit interviews en gesprekken horen. Toni Morrison kreeg trouwens ook de Nobelprijs voor Literatuur; in 1993.
